The 2014 Enologica festival is the perfect opportunity to get to know the undiscovered wines of Emilia-Romagna. While many of us are familiar with the famous wines of Tuscany (boasting of Super Tuscans and Chianti Classicos), the unfamiliar wines of Emilia-Romagna often fall by the wayside – even if they are just as good, and often feature similar grape varieties as those in Tuscany.Featuring over 140 cantinas and wine producers, Enologica 2014 is a three-day long event offering wine tastings, information points, seminars and wind and food pairings. In addition to the main event which will take place in Bologna’s historic Palazzo Re Enzo (a building that is often only open for special events and invite only), there will also be a series of lectures hosted by various enotecas and organizations throughout the city. Some typical Emilia-Romagna wines to look out for are Pignoletto Classico (still white wine), Pignoletto Frizzante (sparkling white wine), Lambrusco (sparkling red wine) and Sangiovese di Romagna (still red wine made with similar grape varieties of Chianti). The ticket price is 20 euros and is valid for all three days. It includes a free wine glass and an information program.
